Guided tour dedicated to the discovery of one of the most important Renaissance architecture of the Alps from a religious, historical and artistic point of view: the Basilica of Madonna di Tirano, erected after the apparition of the Blessed Virgin to Mario Omodei on 29th  September 1504.

Guided tour dedicated to water, a precious asset that has always been luxuriant in the basin of Tirano whose city fabric is dotted with fountains of different shapes. Architectural elements that played a vital role for the community, washbasins, drinking troughs, meeting places in the different districts and water sources that fed the cultivation of the heroic viticulture of  Rhaetian slopes of Tirano.

Interesting walk in the old hamlet of Madonna: after admiring the artistic beauties of the Sanctuary, walk along the characteristic district of Via Rasica discovering votive frescoes, ancient fountains and traces of rural architecture, up to the small church of S. Rocco, a small temple with an octagonal structure of the XVI century and a fascinating building story, open for the occasion.

The castellaccio and the ancient sforzesche walls

A quiet walk in the historical part of the town to discover the traces of the ancient city walls with its Poschiavina, Milanese and Bormina gates and the remains of the castle of Santa Maria known as “il Castellaccio”, which overlooks the town offering a nice glimpse of the town and the mountain terraced landscape surrounding it.

Historic buildings of the city

Itinerary full of art, culture and history, discovering the noble architectural beauties of the cityon River Adda. Strolling through small streets and squares, you can admire the many palaces with their elegant loggias, the noble courtyards, the gardens and the baroque portals that embellish one of the richest historical centres in the Alps. The visit does not include entrance to the residences.

Crotti of Piattamala and the Church of St. Perpetua

Walk along the ancient border between the Dukedom of Milan and the Republic of the Three Leagues to reach the medieval church of Santa Perpetua admiring the extraordinary terraced landscape – whose masonry art is now a UNESCO intangible heritage site – up to the archaeological area of Piattamala with its two typical dry stone dome cuttings where two daggers of the Bronze Age were found. Comfortable shoes recommended.
