Lagrosina: a MTB downhiller’s paradise
Listen up, freeriders and downhillers, here’s where to find your stoke
Lagrosina is one of five downhill tracks that make up the Five Crazy Down circuit. It’s a high altitude route in the stunning Val Grosina, that then carves a sublime way down to the Parco delle Incisioni Rupestri (Grosio’s Rock Engraving Park). Not excessively difficult, this doable descent consists of former military roads and ancient, paved mule tracks, with steep gradients, tight turns and a whole lot of fun guaranteed.
Set off from the centre of Grosio and start the tough climb to Eita (approx. 2 hours): it’s a 15km tarmacked climb that has everything from steep sections to false flats, plus non-stop views of Val Grosina. Once you reach the top of the climb in Eita, continue towards Baite Redasco – about 40 minutes on a gravel track. From here, turn right (signposted Step 1), which escorts you on a long traverse across the valley to Cigoz (signposted Step 2) at 2,020 metres above sea level where you’ll meet an ex-military road.
After the hard climb, you’ll be due a breather before dropping into the descent: a beautiful ex-military road with grin-inducing hairpins that weaves in and out of the woods and Alpine meadows from Cigoz to Poda. From Poda, follow a wide, steep trail down to San Giacomo before you exit onto a paved mule track down to Ravoledo. The final section down to the centre of Grosio is on gravel.
