Sport fishing for trout, grayling and pike 

For a beautiful day outdoors, head to the River Adda, one of the other waterways, or a lovely lake

Sport fishing in the province is Sondrio lends itself to fantastic angling with well-stocked waters holding brown trout, marbled trout, brook trout, the noble grayling and char. You’ll find rich pickings in the River Adda and its tributaries, as well as in the rugged mountain lakes and their torrents. Val Belviso is worth a special mention, as it’s one of the hottest destinations amongst anglers.
In Media Valtellina, the central part of the valley, you’ll come across many artificial lakes that double as great game-fishing waters for a meditative break in the outdoors. Across the valley, make a special effort to cast your line at Parco Prati di Punta’s two lakes as well as Magnolta and Sommasassa, both of which are encircled by the great outdoors and boast such shimmering waters that you’ll be convinced you’re looking in a mirror. Don’t worry if you are new to fishing, the region has a range of courses on offer as well as various rental locations.
The valley’s sport fishing locations can be reached by car and all the lakes mentioned are equipped with a welcome centre for families, helping to set the scene for a rewarding day out.

Parco Prati di Punta (m 590) - Grosotto
On the edge of the small district of Grosotto, you’ll find two artificial lakes close by the River Adda, which are designated sport fishing zones for trout, pike, and carp. Out of the park’s two lakes, the smaller one is intended for beginners. If you’re looking to spend the day here as a family, there are numerous family-friendly activities, including a play park, a petanque pitch, tennis courts, basketball and volleyball nets. A stroll around the park is a must – bring supplies and have a picnic or BBQ between stints on the lakeside. There’s also a bar/pizzeria, which rents out equipment for sport fishing.

Up in Aprica’s Magnolta, there’s a man-made game fishing lake, tucked into the greenery and set against the spectacular backdrop of the Orobic Alps. Day licences can be obtained from the bottom Magnolta cable car station.

An idyllic fishing nirvana surrounded by breath-taking mountain views, the modestly sized Lago di Sommasassa is the ideal fuss-free lake if you’re looking to cast a line, relax under the sun, and wait for that exciting bite from one of the many species present here.
There are plenty of ways to get your fishing fix here: night fishing, competitions, and the daily fish stocking to benefit the angles. There’s also a picnic area with BBQ and rental facilities.
The lake is located in Ca’ Branchi; follow signs for Sommasassa off the road between Tresenda–Teglio.
